Better (for you) Banana Bread

A clean eating version of the all-American classic

When you have a bunch of bananas that are starting to look a little too ripe, you make banana bread. Obvious? To me, it was actually a completely revolutionary idea given the fact that I rarely ever bake (as pointed out by Mr. Healthy Haus on a somewhat regular basis and with not-so-subtle hints of disappointment).

I created a healthier version of the beloved comfort food with gluten free flour, coconut oil, raw nuts and seeds, and without any refined sugar (except for some dark chocolate chips). Much to my own surprise (and my husband’s), this wholesome ‘nana bread turned out delicious!

If you love social media as much as the next girl, you may have noticed all the beautiful smoothie bowls that have been popping up in your feed. Not only do they look gorgeous, they are also a healthy and tasty alternative to your regular old breakfast or mid-morning snack. Unlike a traditional smoothie, a smoothie bowl is eaten with a spoon and can be quite the substantial meal when you top it with fruit, nuts, seeds, cocoa nibs or all of the above.

Chocolate Coconut Granola

In desperate need of some chocolate?

Today (or any day…really, who are you kidding?), get your fix with this luscious chocolate and coconut granola! Have a scoop topped with your favorite kind of milk for a decadent breakfast or sprinkle just a little over some fresh fruit and yogurt for an indulgent snack.

While granola in general is not a low fat food, this clean eating version is full of healthy fats. It is also loaded with antioxidants but, unlike most store-bought granola and cereal, does not contain any refined sugar, artificial flavors, dyes, preservatives or other additives. Just remember – as always – moderation is key!
