What I love in February

How is it already the end of February?

Didn’t we just leave the holidays behind us? Unbelievable how time flies! And it seems to fly even faster the older you get. I’m turning 35 this year if that’s any indication…ugh!

Over the next few weeks, it might get a little quieter around the Haus since I first have a friend and then my Mama coming in to visit me from the homeland. Yup, German immersion at its finest! I’ll try to keep up my posting schedule as much as possible but chances are that I won’t. Make sure you follow me along on Instagram or drop me a line if you miss me too much, OK?

But first, here is what I’m loving this month…

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

bkr glass water bottles are such an obsession of mine! After using the classic size (250ml) all day every day for about a year, my husband gave me their bigger size as a gift a few months ago. It holds one liter of water and is perfect to take to the gym, on road trips and all-day adventures. bkr also recently added a teeny size and you guys – it is so cute! Why do you need it? Well, obviously it is sleek, pretty, leakproof and environmentally-friendly just like the other bkrs. The main reason why I wanted to add this to my collection though is that it is not quite as heavy. When I don’t have a free hand I can toss this little guy in my bag even if said bag is stuffed to the brim and already weighs half a ton (soccer practice comes to mind). The teeny bkr holds 250 ml so it works well for running quick errands. I live in Phoenix and it gets so hot that I don’t want to be stuck anywhere without water. Ever!

Green Up Your Yoga Practice

Let’s talk yoga, mamas…I feel like we haven’t in a while. What kind of mat do you use? After years of practicing yoga on cheap mats from several different bargain stores I was ready to upgrade to a more quality one for my birthday last year. After weeks of researching online and speaking to everyone about which yoga mat they use and what they like/dislike about it I finally settled on the Jade Harmony and could not be more pleased with it! This mat is nice and thick without adding too much bulk and weight when lugging around my kids and kids’ stuff. It is virtually non-slip and holds up like a dream. Seriously, I have been using it consistently at least three times a week since last August and it still looks like new. Made with open-cell, natural rubber (a renewable resource tapped from rubber trees), these mats do not contain any PVC or ozone-depleting substances. Just make sure you clean your mat after each use so germs do not set up camp after you downward dog it. In my attempt to avoid the chemical-laden cleansing wipes at the gym, I have tried a few different natural cleansers and this Organic Yoga Mat Spray from Aurorae is my new favorite! This USDA certified organic cleaning solution is formulated with saponified organic oils of coconut, olive and jojoba, and a proprietary blend of natural essential oils to keep your yoga mat clean and smelling fresh. It is phosphate-free, biodegradable and hypoallergenic, and does not contain alcohol or any other drying ingredients that will degrade your mat. To use, simply spray a couple of times onto a damp towel, wipe down your mat and let it air dry completely before rolling it up.

Noteworthy Green Beauty Launches

By now you all know that I am in love with anything RMS Beauty. I swear, Rose Marie Swift (the founder after whom RMS was named) could put a pile of dirt into one of her little glass jars and I would probably still dab it on my face! After the Living Luminizer was catapulted to cult status a few years ago, RMS just now came out with a similar product called the Master Mixer. It is an update on cool strobing and highlighting products of past seasons as it adds a subtle, warm rose gold hue that flatters all skin tones. Already hailed as the “Holy Grail” of beauty (and on top of my wish list for spring!), the Master Mixer is a true multi-tasker that can transform any product. It blends with lip, cheek, eye or highlighting products to instantly double the color palette of your existing makeup bag. A no-brainer, if you ask me. But then again, I am highly biased!

Another interesting piece of news is the upcoming launch of the H&M Conscious Beauty Collection. Have you heard? It has just started to trickle into some stores (and a few products are already available online) with the full line rolling out by the end of March. The collection includes nearly 30 organic skin, hair, and body products that are free of GMO’s, parabens, silicone, synthetic fragrance and dyes. The sleek, minimalist packaging is all made from recycled materials and everything will be under $13.00. Sounds too good to be true? We shall see…

New in Wellness Books

Kate Hudson just published a book called Pretty Happy: Healthy Ways to Love Your Body. It details the benefits of cultivating an intuitive relationship with your body, eating well, awakening your body through movement and the miracle of mindfulness. The author says:

“I didn’t just wake up one day understanding how to take care of myself. I had to learn how to do so over time, and I continue to learn—each and every day. This is a process, and my body is constantly changing. So is yours. And when I learned how to accept that I will always be like this, I relaxed. Our bodies do not stand still for time. When you understand yourself and connect to how you can become body smart, you realize pretty quickly that the perfect, the ideal is not the goal. Instead, the goal is feeling good in your body. That’s what leads to confidence, to feeling and looking fit, and being pretty happy. Doesn’t that sound great? I think so!”

Umm…thoughts? Sure, the market seems to be saturated with “healthy lifestyle” advice from A-listers such as Gwyneth, Cameron and Co. and to be honest, none of the aforementioned have really interested me thus far. I guess I have a hard time relating to the rich and famous whose routines include personal trainers and private chefs. BUT – this is Kate freakin’ Hudson! She is my total girl crush and, in my opinion, can do no wrong. So yes, I am intrigued…you?
