One might wonder why I, of all people, would give anyone time saving advice.
Quite frankly, I hate being rushed and totally suck at getting ready quickly. Sure, vanity is involved and all the double cleansing, dry brushing, face masking,
IG checking may have something to do with it but to be perfectly honest – I also just love spending time in the bathroom. It is my little sanctuary where the small people living in my house can be locked out of if necessary so I can enjoy some peace and quiet and temporarily obsess over things like pore size rather than tamper tantrums.
I’m on an island far far away…free as a bird…
Until complete mayhem breaks out and my plan for a serene pampering sesh quickly starts to unravel. That’s when I usually need to kick my routine into high gear so I can leave the house (somewhat) on time while still looking pulled together. Thankfully, there are some amazing green beauty products – old favorites and new discoveries – that help me do just that!
I recently won a jar of The Honey Mud and I was so excited that I felt like it was my birthday. It is a total cult favorite and for good reason! This super gentle and invigorating cleansing silk combines raw honey, white halloysite clay and pure plant oils to free your skin of the day’s pollutants while providing nourishment and hydration within seconds. In a circular motion, massage a pea-sized amount into warm, damp skin and rinse clear. Or use it as an indulgent mask – 10 minutes on dry skin is all you need for a soft and glowing complexion.
If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen my post about these babies yesterday. Kaia Naturals 100% non-toxic, cruelty-free and biodegradable cloths are soaked in vitamins, organic honey and natural cleansing oils that leave your skin quenched and glowy at home or on the go! These are free of sulfates, alcohol, parabens and synthetic fragrance and are the only cloths (natural or otherwise) I have tried that do not sting or burn around my sensitive eye area. Oh, and can we please take a minute to talk about the adorable packaging? Love! (*samples generously provided)
Suntegrity in the shade “Light” is one of my “holy grail products” I keep repurchasing over and over. I live in Phoenix where the sun beats down on us pretty much year-round so a good facial sunscreen is absolutely crucial! Suntegrity is a “UV chemical-free” broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen and BB cream in one that treats, hydrates, protects and primes your skin while offering light coverage for a more even tone. Non-nano sized zinc-oxide protects from damaging UV rays and soothes the skin while hyaluronic acid, astaxanthin, red algae and certified organic aloe vera, jojoba, sunflower, pomegranate, cucumber, and green tea help provide additional sun protection and hydration. No time for moisturizer, primer, foundation and the whole shebang? Just put on some Suntegrity and you can be done in 15 seconds tops!
RMS Beauty was the first organic makeup brand I tried and it’s still one of my favorites years later! The Living Luminizer is every green beauty blogger’s (and Victoria Secret supermodel’s) darling as it magically gives you that highly desired “lit from within” glow. It enhances bone structure and fakes a good night’s sleep within moments, making you look bright-eyed and bushy-tailed even if you have hit the snooze button one too many times. I make sure I never run out!
These eye shadows are another personal favorite of mine! Applied very sparingly and worked into the skin like a moisturizer, they give a sheer wash of metallic color that has a very subtle, glossy quality to it. RMS Beauty eye polishes combine raw mineral pigments with nourishing ingredients that hydrate the eye area and prevent early signs of aging. Magnetic – a taupe/silver shadow with a hint of mauve – is my go-to shade (Solar being a close second!). It is dark enough to give some definition so I can forego eye liner if need be, yet it is sheer enough to require zero precision. One quick swipe with your fingertips and you’re good to go!
I wrote an in-depth review of Vapour Organic Beauty a few months back and it is still one of my favorite makeup brands! Siren is a naturally long-wearing, moisturizing lipstick designed to flatter all skin tones. It glides on smoothly and effortlessly which is essential when applying makeup on the fly. As a time saver, I use it as lip color and blush that can be dabbed on with your fingers to instantaneously liven up your face. I have liked every color I have tried from Vapour so far with Ravish being my favorite. It is a sheer rich red that manages to be low maintenance thus perfectly suited for every day. It gives my cheeks a natural flush of color that looks like I just walked in from the cold. Another shade I reach for all the time is Hint – a warm rosy coral that also looks naturally beautiful on lips and cheeks.
Are you tired of me raving about this dry shampoo all the time yet? I seriously do not want to know life without it! It is a must-have for second, third even fourth (no? just me?) day hair! This dry shampoo soaks up oil and odor without leaving a white residue. I simply put a little Healthy Locks in my palms, rub them together, and carefully work my fingers through my hair starting at the roots. Done! It takes no time at all and has made my hair a lot healthier since I do not need to wash and style it as often as I used to. Just please, do yourself a favor and get it already!
Nail polish is one of those products that can never be completely “natural.” Just think about what it is and what it does – paint that is supposed to stick to your nails! While I always try to opt for 5-free formulas that do not contain any of the big five carcinogens (formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, DBP and camphor) found in most conventional nail polishes, Berlin based Treat Collection seems to be one of the safest options out there. Compared to the US, the EU has much stricter regulations regarding the labeling of cosmetics where more ingredients are banned than in many other parts of the world. Treat polishes offer a long handle and an extra soft and wide brush that lets you apply them in a jiffy. In addition, their formulas are fast drying and long lasting. Good Thing is a beautiful shade that offers just the sheerest hint of pink. One quick swipe gives your nails a clean, bright and more even look that lasts about five days. If you have a little more time, try two coats for a classic, semi-opaque milky pink that (with a base and top coat) stays put for a week and a half.
