The Healthy Haus turns one today.
It’s been a whole year since I published my first blog post and have to say – I cannot believe it!
I never expected anyone but my family and maybe best friends to actually read anything I write. Therefore, I want to start out by thanking each and every one of you who have been by my side during these past few months – the readers, the followers, the cheerleaders, the likers, the feedback providers. Those of you who have sent me picture of my recipes you cooked and those who emailed me with questions and suggestions. I am completely humbled! I am also beyond grateful for the amazing brands and fellow bloggers I was able to build solid relationships with. All of your support means the world to me because if it wasn’t for you, I would not be able to keep doing what I love!
The Healthy Haus was born out of a conversation with one of my dearest friends (hi Julia!) after I had just dug myself out of a severe mommy burnout. My second born had not slept through the night until he was two years old and after months of basically sleep walking through most days with a baby and a toddler in tow, I grew so exhausted and overwhelmed that I was completely neglecting myself, physically and emotionally. With the help of my husband and a very patient counselor, I finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel after slowly but surely re-learning how to take care of myself.
Baby steps. I started out by practicing yoga again and by paying attention to how I was treating my body (not good!) with the (little and crappy) food I put in it and the kind of products I slathered all over it. And the more I researched and the more I changed, the better I felt and the bigger my passion for a healthier, cleaner, more sustainable lifestyle grew and completely spilled over into all areas of my being.
I told my friend that it was my dream to turn this rekindled passion into a career by becoming a certified holistic health coach and yoga instructor and to open a wellness center with my (physical therapist) husband. However, since those kinds of dreams take time and money, my friend suggested I’d start a blog in the meantime. She said it would help me delve deeper into the topic of health and wellness and see if it would interest me in the long run. Knowing nothing about blogs other than reading them occasionally, I set out to create this little space I am now so very proud to call my own.
For me, The Healthy Haus has already turned into so much more than just a website. It has become my much needed creative outlet; a place where I can temporarily step away from “just” being mama, connect with like-minded individuals and share a part of who I really am. It serves as a daily reminder to hold myself accountable to living more healthfully and more consciously, and it is my highest goal to inspire others to do the same. I want to show people how easy and quick it can be to cook a clean meal from scratch that the whole family will like without having extensive kitchen skills or fancy gadgets. I want to educate women on why our cosmetics are not as harmless as they were once thought to be and help them find safer and more effective alternatives that make them feel truly beautiful. I hope that by providing facts and offering practical advice, I can give other women and mothers opportunities to make healthier choices for themselves and their families. Last but not least, my hope is to make someone else smile with my stories when they are feeling lost in the mundane or are having a less than perfect day.
I have said it on here many times: Becoming the happiest and healthiest version of yourself takes time. It is a process and definitely not a competition. I actually think that the notion of perfection deters a lot of people from ever making any changes at all because it is, at best, very intimidating. Eating perfectly, avoiding all packaged foods and staying away from all toxins all the time simply is not possible. Therefore, I encourage everyone to strive for “just a little bit better” than the day before, to embrace a “slow and steady” approach and to keep an open mind. Sure, despite your very best efforts, there will be crazy days when all there is left to do is to order a pizza from your favorite neighborhood joint and wash it down with a glass of red. So what? Instead of hitting the panic button, visit me here and find some real life tested tools and resources that may help you make up for it the next day.
I firmly believe that eating whole organic foods, dragging your butt to yoga class, indulging in a good face mask and taking some extra deep breaths whenever possible makes tackling whatever life throws at you so much easier. Therefore, I want to encourage you to practice self care regularly. Not only do you owe it to yourself but also to the ones you love!
To celebrate The Healthy Haus’s first big milestone and to thank all of my amazing readers, I have teamed up with my favorite organic skin care line Leahlani (see Monday’s post for a full review on this incredible brand) to present you with a very special giveaway. One lucky Healthy Haus reader will win not one but two full size products of Leahlani’s handcrafted potions – the Honey Love 3-in-1 (a cult classic and my all time favorite product!) and the Bless Balm (one of Leah’s newest and already widely beloved creations).
Truly, thank you, and good luck to everyone!
