Hair Update

What I am loving for my locks these days.

If you have been following me for a while, you may remember that it took me a looong time to find clean products that work for my hair. Why? Because A) I’m pretty hair challenged to begin with and B) I really loved my old dirty stuff so much I simply could not part ways with it. It was not until a few days ago (yup, days!) that I finally got rid of my last “just in case” stash of BlowPro and Kérastase. I never actually used any of it anymore but I could not get myself to throw it out either. Silly hoarder!

So, with all that gone for good, I thought it was an opportune time to share some of the new products that have made it into my close circle of hair friends. And I’ll reintroduce you to some of my “oldies but goodies” products that have been and continue to be part of my – shall we say – hair game. Here it goes…

Pumpkin Spice Breakfast Cookies

Your friends on busy weekday mornings.

My kids are really good eaters except for when it comes to breakfast. Weekday breakfast, to be specific. You know, the one time during the day when there is pretty much zero room for dilly-dally. However, for some reason that is the very time my kids decide to move at a glacial pace. And more often than not – with the clock ticking extra fast and them moving extra slowly – early mornings at our house quickly snowball into all sorts of chaos. All of a sudden backpacks/water bottles/shoes are missing and I find myself instructing my 3-year old on how to brush his teeth by himself while trying to put his sister’s hair into something that vaguely resembles a ponytail. And before you know it, I’m running around like a sweaty mess of a crazy person hoping to make the first bell on time. EVERYONE, STOP WHINING AND GET IN THE CAR!

Product Review and Discount Code: Green People

The UK’s most loved organic skin care brand is now available in the US.

Although I am from Germany and spend quite a bit of time in Europe, I had never heard of Green People before. Needless to say, I was very intrigued when they contacted me and send some products my way to try and review. I was even more intrigued when I read about how their company got started nearly 20 years ago, way before green beauty was ever a “thing.”

Autumn Salad with Roasted Butternut Squash and Pomegranate

I am obsessed with all things fall.

And that, of course, is because I live in the Arizona desert where hotter than hot summers are forever long. While the rest of the country and my beloved Germany has been enjoying “crisp fall mornings” and “cozy sweaters and scarves weather” for the last few weeks, I’m still rocking the same old shorts and flip flops combo I have been since the middle of April. Sigh! And despite the fact that people (and by people I mean my native Arizonan husband who gets tired of my complaining) continually try to convince me that the weather is “really supposed to cool down next week,” it actually never happens until Halloween. Never. Ever. October 31 is the magic date and not a day sooner. So stop fooling me, husband (and local news weather people) – I know your tricks!

What’s a girl to do in the meantime? I live vicariously through other people’s social media posts and try my best to ignore the local temperature by bringing some fall flavors into the kitchen. My latest creation: An autumn salad featuring oven roasted butternut squash, pomegranate arils and a simple balsamic vinaigrette. Fall lovers rejoice!

Honest Beauty

Green beauty goes mainstream.

Very few (if any) new product launches have recently caused as much controversy in the green beauty community as the launch of Honest Beauty. It seems to me as if people either love or hate it altogether. It’s black or white with not a whole lot of gray area going on.

If you are not familiar with Honest Beauty, let me introduce you to the newest branch of Jessica Alba’s billion dollar empire of non-toxic products! Just as their Honest bundles of eco-friendly personal care, baby and household items, their beauty bundle pretty much follows the same concept. You order three items for $50.00 a month plus up to additional five items for 25% off including free shipping. As with any of Honest’s products, they guarantee satisfaction by accepting returned products within 365 days of receiving and free return shipping. In addition, you can cancel your subscription any time via phone. Sounds pretty good, right?
